What to Bring:

  • Camera with controls: Mirrorless or DSLR and
    one or more lenses

  • Fully charged battery

  • Memory card

  • A method of note taking

Registration:

  • Registration is $240.00 - includes lunch.

What you Learn:

Gain knowledge and experience to confidently use the creative controls the camera offers to produce beautiful photographs. Say good by to the auto setting.

  • The Basics: A tour of your camera and an overview of the fundamentals of exposure, F Stop/Shutter Speed/ISO.

  • Exposure Modes:
    Leave the green auto setting behind and get creative control

  • Buttons and Dials:
    Locate and understand the controls on your camera

  • Important menus & settings:
    File size, quality, file formats (JPG, RAW) white balance and ISO

  • Understanding what a digital image is:
    An easy to understand illuminating view under the technical hood

  • Exposure:
    A simple and thorough explanation of Shutter Speeds, F-stops, and their relationship to ISO and Light

  • Depth of field:
    Understand creative focus controls using selective focus for portraits and universal focus for landscapes

  • Motion blur or Frozen in Time:
    How and when to use different shutter speeds

  • Auto focus modes:
    An overview of auto focus and consideration of technical and creative control.

  • Put it all together:
    Practice what you have learned in a supervised model shoot with a slide show reviewing the participant’s images

  • Introduction to post production:
    The basics of Adobe LightRoom.

What to expect:

A small class purposely designed for instructor, teaching assistant and participant hands-on interaction taught in The Cedars Union, an incubator for the arts adjacent to Old City Park.

Maximum number of students is 12.
Minimum number to make a class is 6.

Workshop Includes:

  • Lunch, soft drinks and water included

  • Classroom lectures and hands on shooting

  • The instructor will tether a camera to the computer for demonstrations and be available with a knowledgable assistant to answer questions

  • Shooting exercises with your camera in a safe learning environment

  • A photo session with models is scheduled in the afternoon to practice all you have learned.

  • Model fees for the afternoon shoot are included

  • Introduction to Post Production in Adobe Lightroom

  • A slide show of the participants images created in the model shoot

Q: If I am attending the workshop with my friend/spouse/sibling, do we each have to register for the class, even if we only have one camera?

A: Yes, each person attending the workshop must register for a seat.

Q: What if I have to reschedule or cancel?

A: Reschedule & Cancellation Policies:

  • Reschedule up to 7 days prior to scheduled class: no charge for changes

  • Reschedule less than 7 days to scheduled class:
    $25.00 administration fee

  • Cancellation up to 7 days prior to scheduled class: 50% refund minus $25 administrative fee.

  • Cancellation less that 4 days to scheduled class: no refund
